Shaq Thompson hoping to stay put with Panthers

In the ending of this 2019 season, linebacker Shaq Thompson is set to become an unrestricted free agent.
However, he will be staying put using the Panthers in Carolina if Thompson has his way.
“This is a place I’ve been for five years,” Thompson told the Charlotte Observer’s Brendan Marks. “I don’t wish to know any other location.”
With Carolina having picked up his fifth-year option, the 2015 NFL Draft’s 25th choice is set to create $9.23 million in 2019.

To say it’s going to be a period for Thompson is an understatement.
As above, he will be playing at the last year of the contract. In addition, he’ll be coming back by a season-ending excursion to injured reserve with a lingering shoulder injury and he will be transitioning, along with the remainder of the shield, by a 4-3 plot to a 3-4 in the wake of Thomas Davis’ departure.
With Davis gone, Thompson ought to be called upon for much more reps and more chance to demonstrate his range and flexibility.
The scheme appears to be coming together.
“We are all used to 4-3, however we’re getting adjusted to this 3-4,” he explained. “I like it. It is just knowing where to line up and how things match just a tiny bit differently with the front and all that.”
In 2018, Thompson’s 79 tackles in 11 starts (14 matches ) tied Davis for second on the Panthers and his 3.5 sacks were third on the team. He’s been called on to play in nickel packages and occasionally at safety, so his flexibility has come to the forefront.

Thus, as the 2019 kickoff dawns, everything appears to be convince Carolina to deliver him back and to possess an impressive season. It is just up to him to seize the day — along with a contract.
